Zadoi, known as the hometown of the Cordyceps fungus (caterpillar fungus), is situated in Yushu Prefecture and is the first county at the source of the mighty Lancang River. Southeast of Zadoi is the breathtaking Angsai Grand Canyon, with its stunning red sandstone landscapes, lush river valley, and expansive grasslands. Given the high likelihood of spotting snow leopards in the canyon, it's also affectionately referred to as the "Valley of the Cats." Come winter, as temperatures drop and rivers freeze, animals tend to migrate to lower altitudes, providing a good opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts keen on observation.

Qianqian is home to much more than just Gaer Monastery; our true core lies in exploring the depths of Tibetan Buddhist culture. Today, we will visit what is perhaps the oldest temple in the region. Together with the lamas, we will learn to create a sand mandala, experience traditional Tibetan Buddhist rituals, and meditate amidst the sea of clouds and heavenly light to seek inner peace. This is a day dedicated to Tibetan Buddhism, preparing our minds and bodies for tomorrow’s pilgrimage to Gaer Monastery.

Lancang Grand Canyon
Morning: Today begins with a pilgrimage to Gaer Monastery. Afterward, we will explore the surroundings of the monastery to discover the wildlife that lives in perfect harmony with this sacred place. Then, we will leave our vehicles behind and hike deep into the Gaer Grand Canyon, walking alongside local herders to experience the authentic pastoral culture.
Afternoon: At Juela Camp, a long stretch of riverside shrubland is home to countless plateau pikas. This area serves as a hunting ground for lynxes. Here, we will hold our breath in anticipation, waiting for a lynx to appear and officially kicking off our wildlife viewing journey.

Lancang Wildlife Observation
Morning: Enjoy a final wildlife viewing session at Juela in the early morning, before heading to the Lancang River section of Sanjiangyuan National Park.

Led by a veteran wildlife guide, you will trek through Snow Leopard Valley in search of the elusive "ghost cat of the snow mountains."
